Department of Hindi:

Cachar College was established in 1960. From the very inception of the College, there wastremendous demand from the students and guardians to open the Department of Hindi. At that time, the colleges of Barak Valley were affiliated to Gauhati University, and there was no Hindi Department in that University.As a resultany department dedicated tothe study ofHindi couldnot be opened inthecolleges of thevalley. Eventually, the Department of Hindi came into existence in Gauhati University in the year 1970.

Subsequently,continuous efforts were made towards the establishment of a Department of Hindi at Cachar College as well.These efforts bore fruit at last and on January the 2nd, 1974the Department of Hindi came into existence. Sri Ram SinghasanGoala was appointed as a Lecturer by the then Governing Body of the Collegeand the department received affiliated status on September 01, 1981. The Departmenthas been managed by an individual facility since its genesis. the Departmenthassucceeded in progressively establishing its presence in the realm of HigherEducation in Hindi.Afterthe retirement of Ram SinghasanGwala, Dr. Shankar Sharma was appointed in this department in 31st July 2008.

In addition to regular classes of scheduled work load, the existing teacher take tutorial classes. Apart from classroom teaching learning the teacher actively engageshimself in various activities of the College, which have been assigned by the College Authority.

The students of Hindi Department are motivated to take partcooperative part in theactivities of the College and the teacher always extends cooperation toadministrative and academic activities of the College. The strength of the department lies in the sincere effort to serve Hindi as a language and to uphold the worth of reading Hindi Literature and related culture.
