Department of Philosophy:

The department of Philosophy, Cachar College, Silchar, was started in the year 1960 along with the inception of Cachar College and Dr. Joylakshmi Devi as the founder head of the department. Dr. J Devi had a vision to constitute her department as an ideal one offering both honours and pass courses. From the very beginning the teachers of the department are imparting value based education and trying to instill in the minds of the young learners a love for addiction-free life and spirit of enquiry.

From the year 2004, the department had launched a wall magazine entitled ‘Quest’ with a view to building up in the minds of the students the habit of thinking and expressing their ideas on different topics through writing. Presently a falling interest in philosophy is felt among the students. So the teachers of the department are planning to arouse interest in philosophy in the minds of the young learners by publishing quarterly magazine. The department scaled great academic heights and in the same legacy, the current faculties too strive for upholding the same legacy. Many alumni of the department have achieved admirable success in academic, intellectual and professional arena.
